Yoga For Men Builds Core Strength And Flexibility

September 19, 2012 By News articles on health

Yoga for men offers many benefits you might not know about. Many people associate yoga with increasing flexibility and balance. While that’s true, it also increases endurance, builds stronger muscles, and may even help prevent injuries or medical conditions like heart disease.

You know how important stretching is to good athletic performance. If you are like a lot of men you probably have tightness in your shoulders, hips, or hamstrings. This tightness can be a sign of weakness that leads to injury. This is particularly true if you participate in a sport that causes over-training of a certain muscle group. Yoga can help protect against injury since it is a full body workout that increases your flexibility and body strength.

Yoga for men is much like yoga in general. A good pose for men is the downward dog. This is beneficial because it addresses tightness in the hips, shoulders, and hamstrings. At the same time it helps to increase upper body strength. To do this exercise, you start by getting on your hands and knees. Keep your fingers spread apart and press into your hands while you lift your knees and legs from the floor. You can inch your fingers forward or your toes backwards to stretch out this pose. Relax your neck and shoulder muscles but keep your core muscles and thigh muscles contracted for a couple of minutes. Relax and repeat. Remember to breathe deeply and slowly throughout the process.

Yoga for men can be relaxing too. A good pose for that is the bow pose. This opens the chest so you can breathe more deeply. It also builds the muscles in your back. To do this exercise, lie down on your stomach with your arms at your side and your palms facing upwards. Now bend your knees and pull your heels in towards your hips. Grab your ankles with your hands and lift your thighs up off of the floor. Take in full deep breaths and hold the position for thirty seconds at a time. If your muscles are tight you may have to stretch one leg at a time.

A yoga pose that stimulates the prostate gland and relieves sciatica is the reclining big toe. To do this, lie down on your back with your legs outstretched. Raise your right leg straight up in the air while keeping your left leg pressed into the floor. Bend your right knee into your chest and grab it with your hands to pull your knee close to your chest and stretch your hip muscles. Extend the leg again and then lower it and repeat with the left leg.

Yoga for men can help relieve stress, protect against muscle injury, and provide health benefits such as lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Yoga is a whole body workout that strengthens your core so you are protected from an imbalance that may occur if you participate in mainly one sport such as running. It’s a great way to improve your health and prevent injury and disease that is fun and relaxing too.
