Mike Olaski is the found of TheMasterCleanse.org and in this product Zero to Master Cleanse, he aims to teach you how to cleanse your body, lose weight and feel great. His sales page is a pretty long video but it does offer some truly great advice and tips – as well as a new approach to weight loss. Instead of focusing on fast weight loss using starvation, pills, extreme exercise and all the other fads, the Master Cleanse is what he calls a “ReductionDiet”.
With pretty outrageous claims of being able to lose 2 pounds of fat per DAY, the Master Cleanse is quite incredible when it comes to claiming about weight loss. So let’s take a close look and see if these claims are actually backed up by any evidence.
The premise of the diet is to “fast” your way to weight loss. It’s basically a lemonade diet which you use to cleanse your body and detox. Made up of fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and purified water, the lemonade is actually quite tasty – but won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
They make a big point of saying it’s not a “starvation diet”. The Master Cleanse is what they call a “liquid food diet” – which makes sense considering the actual nutritional makeup of the lemonade is good. Each glass has 113 calories and they recommend drinking 6-18 glasses per day, which, if you do the maths, works out at anywhere from 600+ to 2000 calories per day – not really what we’d call a starvation diet. You do this for 10 days – which is around the usual for a detox.
You also have to take a herbal laxative tea every night before bed which basically acts as your fiber so that you can flush out the toxins and bad stuff from your body. The main idea behind this diet is to wash your system using the lemonade and then flush it out of your body using the herbal tea.
The other thing we like about the Master Cleanse is that it actually gradually reintroduces you to food and real world eating over the course of 3 days. Other detox diets tend to leave this part out and if you suddenly start eating solid food again after a 10 or 14 day cleanse, you can actually do more damage to your body.
We would recommend this diet purely based on the science around it. It’s been known for a long time that the lemonade formula is actually very good for your body and as it’s not a starvation diet, but a repair and protect diet, we highly recommend it.
