The speech was brilliant as usual, but the fine print is something else entirely. Everybody should take the time to read Mark Taibbii’s article over at Rolling Stone Magazine, which explains in great detail, which proposals are even being considered, and why others have been trashed from the start. It’s a long article, but if you want inform yourself, looking behind the official rhetoric, please the time. It was re-posted at this website: www.commondreams.org Speeches, can sway people either way, but only the BILLS matter. The one proposed by the Senate Finance Committee is RIGGED from the start, and this article explains how and why. If this is the bill that Obama is willing to accept, then it is no good. It could actually make everything worse. I’m in favor of reform, but not reform financed by big insurance and big pharma.

it’s more about power.
they can just create the money.
they already control almost everything.
and now(or gradually) they’re gonna control our healthcare.
they’re gonna database all of our healthcare records so they can limit our healthcare and come to kill us once we use up our carbon credits, which will eventually be tied into everything.you’re gonna have a vaccine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.eventually they’ll program whoever lives to enjoy the agony of being slave- u might win the lottery

Doesn’t really matter, that system as is the one we are in now, is set up to fail. Regardless of how much money, control, power and influence is put into it, it will not stand.

well i did post another comment but i guess youtube removed it.

i think they just might stage an event to push the agenda, especially since his ratings are so low.

of course they are all bought, but you can obviously see who big insurance has in their back pocket. socializing medicine is a loss of a lot of money for the politicians.

Yes he gave a very powerful speech and told the republicans that they were responsible for the state the country was in, wars health crunch etc which they did’nt like and i guess most intelligent people like ella in America agree with and said we cant keep kicking this down the line into the next election but like you said he also put up a wall against the public option which the big corperations will rip apart after awhile and the system will be even bigger mess. i guess america has to crash
womblefree says
2) and burn before people come to their sense’s and realize that big money looks for big short term profits rather than sensible spending for real people in the real world, Its a shame but i think america is going down the road to being ripped apart by social strife and inequality and something has to crack sometime, we are a social creatures but the system is set up for individualist greed like ENRON and Madeoff.

thanx as always for the link

…business as usual, so right Ella.
The last paragraph in your info box is so right. I don’t understand why he is making everything worse, and more than that, why we are letting him. States are trying to figure out what to do with all their homeless and he’s worried about getting this passed. Also, your comment about funding the wars. Everything lately is being done just to put money in a select fews pockets.

Extortion. You don’t have to pay car insurance. You can do what I do, and have a bike or take the bus if you live in the city. But you can’t avoid breathing..and the most you can expect to get back from a profit based health delivery system is less than 10% – they’ll still deny care but force you to pay premiums.

the greatest bailout is coming, social security, that’s something people are not looking at.
it is going into red numbers next year, how will they pay for it, with the only way they can, printing more money, what do you think all these billions and billions of dollars will do to the value of the currency?

You point out bernie, which i agree with, but social security is a ponzi scheme and nobody shuts it down. Noam chomsky likes to say the the reps and dems are just two factions of the business party, and i agree.

>>> But we need to remember, those of us old enough to be involved in anti-Vietnam protests and civil rights movements, that no president or politician is beyond making back-room deals. LBJ did great things for civil rights, but he had to be PUSHED from below + out of political concerns. His record on Vietnam is abysmal. I will never vote for anyone in the GOP, but the Dems are appeasing them at every turn, with very few exceptions. I always appreciate your comments, Hugh >>>

Anyway…please take the time to check out TheBlackCommentator website, which backs up my arguments or more precisely, I’m in agreement with their critique of this administration. We will always be friends, Hugh 🙂

xwarnomore58x: Even if we had a truly FREE MARKET, it would not work, because the very idea behind it, makes the assumption that humans and markets act RATIONALLY, and therefore, in everybody’s interest in the long run. Ayd Rand’s ideas, and those of her followers, make the assumption, that human behavior, acting out of self-interest alone, will curb corruption by default. This is patently false, and nothing more than a convenient excuse for survival of the fittest in economic terms.
55ella2007k says
>>> In evolutionary terms, the human species is prone to act both rationally and irrationally throughout its existence. Moreover, her entire theory of OBJECTIVISM is total bullshit, considering, that her family was part of Russian elite under the Czar, but displaced by a revolution which had some egalitarian motives at least, which later on, became corrupted as well. There is NO such thing as OBJECTIVISM. Noone is objective, our lives are shaped by our experiences, which inform our choices.

Free market is a very bad idea. I never supported it. I no longer get notifications from my old account so you will have to direct responses to me for the time being.

My main concern with this whole subject is the fact that this government would take control of each and every citizen of this country and say “you will have health insurance” no choice, “YOU WILL” and we will force you to select a plan. My rights to decide for myself as a human being are again taken away. Where is the freedom? I personally will refuse to bow down to another government mandate agaisnt my freedom. Forced insurance is in other terms extortion and a crime in my eyes.
