Yoga Fashion Lets You Look Great While You Get In Shape

September 25, 2012 By News articles on health

The clothes you wear during a yoga session are more important than you might think at first. Whether you take yoga classes or practice at home, you need clothing that lets you move freely but isn’t free flowing. Clothing that is too lose will rise up or get in the way as you work different poses. If your clothing hugs your body, your instructor has a better idea of how well you are aligned in your postures. Hugging your body is good, but too tight is not. You don’t want to worry about your pants ripping or your waistband cutting into your stomach when you do a forward bend. When it comes to yoga fashion, your choices are nearly limitless. You can be assured you will look good while you are working out.

Yoga pants are usually made of a stretchable fabric such as supplex or lycra. They are often Capri style so the length doesn’t get in the way. A rollover waistband allows you full movement when bending and stretching. Yoga pants are available in many colors to match individual styles. Pants for men are often made from fleece or cotton and not as form fitting as yoga pants for women so it is important to choose the right size so the fit is not too baggy or too long. In addition to pants, shorts are available for men, women, and kids in cuts and fabrics that are ideal for yoga.

Yoga tops are available as standard t-shirts, or tank tops and made from cotton, bamboo, or a stretchable fabric such as supplex. When it comes to yoga fashion, you want to look your best, but it is also important you feel confident in your choice of clothing. Form fitting tops may feel comfortable for a workout at home but make you feel conspicuous when worn to a yoga class.

Because yoga clothes are so comfortable to wear, yoga fashion is mainstream. It isn’t unusual to see people sporting yoga wear to engage in other sports or as they go about daily shopping. With yoga clothes, the emphasis is on comfort so it’s no wonder people want to wear them everywhere. Yoga clothing has expanded to include hoodies, dresses, and loungewear.

While there is a huge variety when it comes to yoga fashion, it may be difficult to find a broad choice locally. If you don’t have a store near you that sells yoga clothes and accessories, then you can always shop online. While comfort is important, it never hurts to look fashionable. After all, there are not very many sports that allow you to look great while you are working out so you might as well take advantage of it.

Yoga For Men Builds Core Strength And Flexibility

September 19, 2012 By News articles on health

Yoga for men offers many benefits you might not know about. Many people associate yoga with increasing flexibility and balance. While that’s true, it also increases endurance, builds stronger muscles, and may even help prevent injuries or medical conditions like heart disease.

You know how important stretching is to good athletic performance. If you are like a lot of men you probably have tightness in your shoulders, hips, or hamstrings. This tightness can be a sign of weakness that leads to injury. This is particularly true if you participate in a sport that causes over-training of a certain muscle group. Yoga can help protect against injury since it is a full body workout that increases your flexibility and body strength.

Yoga for men is much like yoga in general. A good pose for men is the downward dog. This is beneficial because it addresses tightness in the hips, shoulders, and hamstrings. At the same time it helps to increase upper body strength. To do this exercise, you start by getting on your hands and knees. Keep your fingers spread apart and press into your hands while you lift your knees and legs from the floor. You can inch your fingers forward or your toes backwards to stretch out this pose. Relax your neck and shoulder muscles but keep your core muscles and thigh muscles contracted for a couple of minutes. Relax and repeat. Remember to breathe deeply and slowly throughout the process.

Yoga for men can be relaxing too. A good pose for that is the bow pose. This opens the chest so you can breathe more deeply. It also builds the muscles in your back. To do this exercise, lie down on your stomach with your arms at your side and your palms facing upwards. Now bend your knees and pull your heels in towards your hips. Grab your ankles with your hands and lift your thighs up off of the floor. Take in full deep breaths and hold the position for thirty seconds at a time. If your muscles are tight you may have to stretch one leg at a time.

A yoga pose that stimulates the prostate gland and relieves sciatica is the reclining big toe. To do this, lie down on your back with your legs outstretched. Raise your right leg straight up in the air while keeping your left leg pressed into the floor. Bend your right knee into your chest and grab it with your hands to pull your knee close to your chest and stretch your hip muscles. Extend the leg again and then lower it and repeat with the left leg.

Yoga for men can help relieve stress, protect against muscle injury, and provide health benefits such as lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Yoga is a whole body workout that strengthens your core so you are protected from an imbalance that may occur if you participate in mainly one sport such as running. It’s a great way to improve your health and prevent injury and disease that is fun and relaxing too.

Yoga For Kids – A Fun Way For Kids To Develop Coordination And Flexibility

September 19, 2012 By News articles on health

Although most of us tend to think of yoga as an adult activity, it is also very beneficial for children. In many larger cities it is easy to find classes that offer yoga for kids. If you don’t have local classes, you can teach your child at home from one of the many DVDs or online videos that are available.

Kids get the same benefits from yoga that adults do. It is an activity that nurtures the mind, body and spirit. Even young kids today suffer from stress and burn out. Kids are under a lot of pressure to excel in school and participate in sports and other extra curricular activities. Yoga for kids teaches them how to de-stress and relax, not just during the yoga class, but also when needed during the course of daily life.

Even very young children benefit from yoga. Yoga exercises help them develop body awareness, coordination, and flexibility. What’s more kids of all ages seem to really enjoy learning about yoga and practicing the poses. It’s a healthy habit that when fostered at an early age will reward kids with improved flexibility and stress reduction throughout their lives as they continue to practice and learn advanced techniques.

When it comes to yoga for kids, some poses are better suited than others. An easy one for kids to pick up that they can use anywhere at anytime is the Five Breath Fist. To do this, the child should sit comfortably and make a fist with one hand. While inhaling, the child extends his fingers to a count of five and then exhale while curling his fingers back to a slow count of five. Concentrating on the breath is a core principal of yoga and will help calm kids and get them ready to focus.

The Tree Pose is fun for kids too. Kids can pretend they are a tree in the forest while doing this pose so they can engage their imaginations. This pose helps kids develop a sense of balance. To do it, the child balances himself on one foot and rests his other foot against his knee. The leg he is standing on is like the trunk of a great tree rooted deep in the earth. He can slowly move his arms about to imitate the movement of tree limbs gently blowing in the wind.

Yoga for kids should be fun and engaging. Kids shouldn’t feel pressured to do the poses perfectly, rather they should feel supported throughout the learning process so they have fun. Approached with the right attitude, yoga for kids can grow into a lifelong love of the art and provide them with a host of benefits to mind, body, and spirit.

What is Hatha Yoga?

September 18, 2012 By News articles on health

What is Hatha Yoga? info and review

The hatha yoga is a physical and spiritual form of yoga. It prepares the body so that you can explore your spirituality more effectively. When most people think of yoga today, this is the form of it that they are most familiar with. It is a great yoga for the beginning practitioners too.

This yoga is made up of asanas (postures) that work to stretch out, tone and strengthen your body. You will be asked to do a number of these postures usually holding them for a given time. They are also done in a specific order to prepare the body for the next one; this slowly warms the muscles up and prevents injury.

Some of the hatha yoga poses take strength, ability and focus to do them. This is all gradually learned as you get further into the yoga. The poses are usually mixed with breathing exercises or what is called pranayama. The instructor may even have you work on just your breathing during the session. It is said that to control you body you must first control your breathing. This also makes you focus inward which is what makes it easier to work on your spirituality.

Practicing this type of yoga can bring out mental and physical potentials that you may not know exist. As you continue to do the asanas you will become stronger and more flexible. You will also start learning how to relax even when in stressful scenarios. Hatha even has relaxation exercises which open up your channels of energy this permits your spiritual energy to emerge more easily.

There are those hatha yoga asanas that tone and massage your body’s organs. This helps prevent certain diseases from happening like diabetes for one. It can also lower blood pressure. These postures can also bring balance to your internal workings. The breathing exercises are great for respiratory problems like asthma.

When you participate in this yoga you can relieve the tensions of the day, relieve anxiety as we have mentioned before and lift your mood and keep depression from happening. It helps get your mind ready to meditate too so you can attain true enlightenment.

Practitioners of any yoga have bodies that are in good shape when they do it on a regular basis. Since some of the exercises are demanding the body builds strength. These people also gain clarity in their minds. Hatha is a journey in self improvement allowing the practitioners take these lessons and use them in their daily lives.

There are many places to learn hatha yoga. Surely there is a class being given near you. Many other forms of yoga are available too. So if this one does not suit you just try one of the other kinds. You will find one that fits your needs. With all of today’s stresses it is nice to know that there is a discipline that will help you cope with them. So look into Hatha today and see if it is for you.

What is Yoga?

September 18, 2012 By News articles on health

What is Yoga? info – review

The practice of yoga is an ancient system of mental and physical exercise which has stood the test of time. It has been in existence for over 5,000 years. Back in the ancient times there was a desire for health, long life, heightened self-awareness and more personal freedom. The word for this system actually means to yoke or join together. It brings one’s mind and body into a state of harmony jointly.

About

The practice of yoga includes three basic things: breathing, meditation and exercise. All the exercises are designed to help the body function better and in turn make you healthier. This teaches us to treat our bodies with respect and care since they are the instruments that allow us to live our lives.

The techniques of breathing that are used in yoga keep in mind the fact the breath is needed for life. The student of this practice gradually develops control over their breathing, which improves their mental and physical functioning, along with their overall health. The breathing and exercise prepared the mind and body for the meditation. You can quiet your mind and relax from your daily stresses. This helps your body heal from the effects of the anxiety you go through. Doing all this on a daily basis can bring you clearer mind along with a stronger body.

Poses

The poses used in yoga are meant to help the body become more balanced, by giving you more flexibility and strength. This is accomplished through performing postures of poses where each one is designed to provide specific benefits physically. Depending on which form of it you practice the poses can be done slowly to bring about perfect alignment of said pose and ups your stamina, or they can be done in a more rapid succession which cause the body to heat up through the movements.

Various Types

There are various types of yoga practiced. When looking for a class for you, you might find that you need to try more than one to find the style that suits your need. Educate yourself on these styles so that you know what to look for in a class. Below are some of the top ones and explanations of what they are:

Hatha is a slower-paced style and a gentle introduction into this system of mental and physical exercise.

Kundalini works the core more and emphasizing releasing the body’s lower energy to help the upper body. More sitting along with rapid movements are involved in this form.

Anusara is a recent form of yoga is a very spiritual taught in a very upbeat manner. It is said to be good for the heart.

Restorative style is all about relaxation. It is the perfect way to quiet the mind after a busy day.

Now you should understand more about yoga. Is it for you? Can you see where it can benefit you in your daily life? Oh good you can, then go check out some classes, books or DVDs on the practice and see which style is the one for you.

What to Look for in Yoga Kits

September 12, 2012 By News articles on health

What to Look for in Yoga Kits review and info

When you are just starting out with yoga, most people want to “do it right” and therefore, they look for yoga kits to help them get off to a good start. You can find several beginner kits as well as more advanced, there are basic kits and some that include props that are often used in certain yoga poses. However, if you are just starting your yoga, you might want to choose a basic kit to get you off to a good start, but that doesn’t cost a lot of money.

Basic yoga kits typically have a mat, foam blocks, tote bags, and instructional charts. This gives you everything you need to get started and it is inexpensive so that if you find yoga is not your forte, you will not have been out a lot of money. Those that start with a basic or beginner yoga kit, and find they plan to stick with the practice, go on to buy other advanced kits that include more so that can get the most from their yoga experience.

For instance, if you plan to take power yoga, which is more vigorous than traditional yoga, you may need a yoga kit that includes the mat and balance ball since this is typically used in power yoga, and the balance ball is something you can use for other exercises besides yoga. Some of the yoga kits have instructional videos, which is very useful if you just want to learn yoga on your own and practice it in the comfort of your own home.

Advanced yoga kits have more foam props, so you can perform advanced yoga poses. You may also find some with yoga straps, which is needed in many of the poses. Therefore, make sure you purchase a kit based on your skill level as a yogi because beginner’s often will try to buy everything they can relating to yoga and then find that it might not be for them. Buy a kit that has everything a beginner needs, if you enjoy it and stick to it, you can also buy another kit or purchase products individually, which is what many experienced yogis do.

It is wise to check around for the various yoga kits offered particularly online because you can save quite a bit of money and often you may find free shipping, which is an added bonus. Moreover, make sure you know the type of yoga you want to practice, for instance, if you are looking to engage in traditional yoga, you might do well to get a kit that has instructional videos with a history of yoga. If you wish to engage in power yoga, then you also want a kit that offers videos so that you can properly engage in the yoga correctly and get the most from your time.
