A Williams College 2011 Reunion Weekend lecture by Brothers Dr. Richard Besser ’81 and Dr. Mitchell Besser ’76. Dr. Richard Besser ’81, Chief Health and Medical Editor for ABC News and former Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will talk about using mainstream media to promote public health. He’ll reflect on how his experiences at CDC during the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic led him in this direction and will talk about his ABC News global health initiative. Dr. Mitchell Besser ’76, Founder and Medical Director of mothers2mothers and former left fielder for the Boston Red Sox, will talk about his public health experiences in Micronesia, San Diego and South Africa and reflect on mothers2mothers, an organization now reaching 20% of the HIV infected pregnant women in the world.
